What is apoptosis?
Understanding your skin – my top 5 supernatural anti-aging advice
You’ve probably heard of the Egyptian Cleopatra. She is still known for having beautiful skin and having been a beautiful woman. Well, we know from the scriptures from the times that she used powdered frankincense and myrrh mixed into a paste. The ancient Egyptians understood how the plants separated themselves from their essence and explored ways to make the magic happen.
Right so we all knew this… but wait…
During Cleopatra’s reign (around 40 years before Christ), rose petals were strewn along the waters of the Nile in preparation for the Queen’s procession down the river. As the oils evaporated, a heady aroma leg her people into a blissful ecstasy.
If you go to pubmed.gov and put frankincense, myrrh into their search engine, you’ll find that those items from that region would cause apoptosis or cell death.
Don’t worry? It isn’t something terrible. Apoptosis means cell death. This cell death only kills off the surface cells, the ones that have already been damaged by age, letting the body create healthy new cells. So, after all, it is needed.
So if you really want to use products on your skin that will help you with aging I suggest you stay away from chemical filled skin “care” products and simply turn to our sweet Frankie and Myrrh doTERRA essential oils.
Of course, you must remember that not all essential oils are created equal and that our skin is just as bio individual as the rest of our body, so before you start covering yourself in essential oils, do a patch test on your wrist or behind your ears. Remember to always dilute and when it comes to slowing down the aging process good food, exercise and a good, natural skin care routine are super important too.
Here are my top 5 supernatural tips for a healthy, glowing skin:
1: Drink 2-3 liters of water daily.
The daily liquid can include herbal teas, water, sugar-free green juice, broth. Cofee, tea, and fizzy drinks are not included.
2. Take good quality whole food supplements.
I take the Life Long Vitality Pack from doTERRA. It is vegan, provides a concentrated source of powerful antioxidants, contains powerful polyphenols that protect cells from free radicals that can damage cellular DNA, mitochondria, and other critical cell structures. Supports a healthy oxidative stress response in cells. The supplement also includes a blend of essential fatty acids and essential oils that have been clinically demonstrated to support normal and healthy oxidative stress response in cells. You can order them at wholesale prices here.
3. Include good fats in your diet
Each skin cell is surrounded by two layers of fat that make up the cell walls and is known as the phospholipid bilayer. This layer incorporates dietary fats and is key to giving the appearance of plump, healthy skin.
The most important of these fats are omega-3. The ideal ratio between omega-3 and -6 should be 1:2.
Include walnuts, linseeds, pumpkin, chia, and hemp.
Biotin is also very important for your skin as it is helping fat metabolism in the skin. It is found in good amounts in organic, wild caught fish, non-GMO soy products, organic egg yolk, raw almonds, Swiss Chard, tomato, avocado and sweet potatoes.
4. Non TOXIC SKIN care and a good skin care regime twice a day
Always use 100% natural skin care. I use VERAGE from doTERRA and Fractionated coconut oil with a blend of Therapeutic grade essential oils to customise my face care daily to my skin’s needs.
My routine is the following:
Step 1: Oil cleanse with Fractionated coconut oil – Double cleanse with VERAGE cleanser and water. Cleanse your skin first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
Step 2: use a toner to balance PH levels. I normally use my homemade lemon, melaleuca, and peppermint water toner. Important that you don’t use lemon on your skin during the day, as it is phototoxic. It means it will cause pigmentation a the event of sun exposure.
Step 3: Application of Frankincense essential oil around my eyes, lips, and areas where I’m getting fine lines.
Step 4: I follow this step by applying my moisturizer with a drop of FCO (fractionated coconut oil ) and 1 drop of Mhyyr essential oil, sometimes add some more Frankie too. Only use doTERRA.
5. Weekly home facial and deep cleanse – detox masque
As an oncology skin care therapist and natural skin care expert as well as being a Nutritional Health Coach I understand the importance of deep cleanse and detoxification.
This is why I do a cedarwood steam every week, followed by a manual extraction. I try to remove blackheads and calm pimples if any. I don’t recommend you give this a go unless you have been to one of my skin care webinars or skin care workshops.
Follow the steam with a 5-10 min manual massage with Frankincense essential oil blended with fractionated coconut oil. Don’t remove the oil and follow this with a detoxifying mud mask.
I love doTERRA’s mud mask, but I also love to make my own.
Here is one of my simple recipes:
1 teaspoon of bentonite clay
1 teaspoon raw honey
1 teaspoon of water
2 drops of lavender essential oil (optional)
Leave on for 5 min minimum, but this really depends on your skin condition. Your skin will be naturally red as clay attracts the circulation to the top of the surface of the skin.
Sending you love and health
